V-AMP- How Do I Access V-AMP 2 Presets Using The FCB1010?

This guide is divided into 3 parts :

  • SECTION A - Preset selection with DIRECT SELECT enabled
  • SECTION B - Preset selection with DIRECT SELECT disabled
  • SECTION C - Preset selection in non-sequential order with DIRECT SELECT disabled.

SECTION A: Preset selection with DIRECT SELECT enabled

(DIRECT SELECT allows for faster access if you use more than one BANK of FCB1010 PRESETS)

  1. Reset all presets on the FCB1010 by holding footswitches 1 and 6 while powering up. The display will show numbers that cycle from ‘.0.9’ to ‘00’.

  2. Press and hold the DOWN switch during a second power-up to enter the GLOBAL SETUP mode. The green DIRECT SELECT LED will be lit up. Check to see that the red LED on footswitch 10 is illuminated, and if it isn’t, press the footswitch to light it. This will indicate that DIRECT SELECT is activated.

  3. Press the UP switch to go to the next level, and the green MIDI FUNCTION LED in the GLOBAL CONFIGURATION portion of the display will start to flash.

  4. Press footswitch 1. The LED for that footswitch will flash and ‘01’ will appear in the display.

  5. Press the UP switch and the green MIDI CHAN LED will light up.

  6. Press footswitches 0 and 1, so that ‘01’ appears in the display.

  7. Press the UP switch again to confirm the chosen MIDI channel.

  8. Press and hold the DOWN switch until ‘00’ appears in the display, and you will have left the GLOBAL SETUP menu.

  9. On the V-AMP 2, press the BANK UP and BANK DOWN ‘arrow’ keys at the same time, and you will see the ‘SETUP’ LED light up, indicating that you are in SETUP mode.

  10. Press button A (MIDI) to access the MIDI function on the V-AMP 2.

  11. If the display shows ‘1’ it means that the V-AMP 2 is configured to receive and send data on MIDI channel 1. If the display doesn’t show a ‘1’, use the ‘arrow’ keys to set the value to ‘1’. Press the TUNER key to exit SETUP mode on the V-AMP 2.

  12. To select V-AMP 2 PRESET B in BANK 3, press footswitch 1 on the FCB1010 twice, so that ‘11’ appears in the display. On the V-AMP 2, the display will show a ‘3’ for BANK 3 and button ‘B’ of the A-E buttons will be illuminated.

With DIRECT SELECT enabled on the FCB1010, here is an example of how the presets accessed with the footswitches normally correspond with the BANKS and PRESETS on the V-AMP 2 (with DIRECT SELECT enabled you don’t need to access a BANK on the FCB1010 first):

FCB1010 V-AMP 2

  1. BANK 1 PRESET A

  2. BANK 1 PRESET B

  3. BANK 1 PRESET C

  4. BANK 1 PRESET D

  5. BANK 1 PRESET E

  6. BANK 2 PRESET A

  7. BANK 2 PRESET B

  8. BANK 2 PRESET C

  9. BANK 2 PRESET D

  10. BANK 2 PRESET E

  11. BANK 3 PRESET A

  12. BANK 3 PRESET B

There is a way to select any of the 125 presets on the V-AMP 2 from any of the 100 memory locations in the FCB1010. This process will be shown in Section C. Continued on page 2

SECTION B: Preset selection with DIRECT SELECT disabled

(This mode works well if you are accessing FCB1010 PRESETS from a single BANK)

The V-AMP 2 holds 125 presets, and you can easily access any of the first 50 presets by use of the FCB1010, while it’s in DIRECT SELECT disabled mode.

  1. On the FCB1010, press and hold the DOWN switch during power up for about 2½ seconds to enter GLOBAL SETUP mode. The green DIRECT SELECT LED will light up.

  2. The LED to footswitch 10 needs to be unlit, indicating that DIRECT SELECT mode is disabled. If the LED is lit, press on the switch to turn it off.

  3. Press the UP switch to confirm your choice.

  4. Press the DOWN switch until ‘00’ appears in the display to exit GLOBAL CONFIGURATION mode.

  5. The 125 presets on the V-AMP 2 are arranged in 25 banks (1-25) of 5 presets each (A-E). The FCB1010 can access those presets by the use of the BANK UP and DOWN switches (10 BANKS numbered 0-9) and footswitches 1-10 in each BANK, for a total of 100 choices. To select PRESET A in BANK 1 of the V-AMP 2, press the UP switch on the FCB1010 until ‘00’ (for BANK 0) is shown in the display, and press footswitch 1 so that the LED lights up. On the V-AMP 2 the display will now show a ‘1’ for BANK 1 and button ‘A’ of the A-E buttons will be illuminated.

  6. To select V-AMP 2 PRESET E in BANK 10 use the UP and DOWNpedals on the FCB1010 to select BANK 04, and press pedal 10.

With DIRECT SELECT disabled the FCB1010, here is an example of how the presets accessed with the UPDOWN and numbered footswitches normally correspond with the BANKS and PRESETS on the V-AMP 2:

FCB1010 V-AMP 2

BANK 00 PRESET 1 BANK 1 PRESET A

BANK 00 PRESET 2 BANK 1 PRESET B

BANK 00 PRESET 3 BANK 1 PRESET C

BANK 00 PRESET 4 BANK 1 PRESET D

BANK 00 PRESET 5 BANK 2 PRESET E

BANK 00 PRESET 6 BANK 2 PRESET A

BANK 00 PRESET 7 BANK 2 PRESET B

BANK 00 PRESET 8 BANK 2 PRESET C

BANK 00 PRESET 9 BANK 2 PRESET D

BANK 00 PRESET 10 BANK 2 PRESET E

BANK 01 PRESET 1 BANK 3 PRESET A

……

……

BANK 02 PRESET 1 BANK 5 PRESET A

…..

…..

BANK 04 PRESET 1 BANK 9 PRESET A

…..

BANK 04 PRESET 10 BANK 10 PRESET E

(On the V-AMP 2 BANK 10 PRESET E represents the last (50th) preset that you can access sequentially with the FCB1010 in DIRECT SELECT disabled mode.)

SECTION C: Non-sequential preset selection (with DIRECT SELECT disabled)

In SECTIONS A and B we accessed V-AMP 2 presets using the FCB1010 presets in ‘sequential’, with the first FCB1010 preset corresponding to the first V-AMP 2 preset, etc… You can also program any the FCB1010 presets to correspond with any of the V-AMP 2 presets. In this example, we’ll assign BANK 1 PRESET 4 on the FCB1010 to access (by the use of a program change command) BANK 25 PRESET C on the V-AMP 2.

  1. On the FCB1010, press and hold the DOWN switch during power-up for about 2 ½ seconds to enter GLOBAL SETUP mode. The green DIRECT SELECT LED in the display will light up.

  2. The red LED on footswitch 10 should be unlit. If it is lit, press the switch to turn it off. DIRECT SELECT mode will now be disabled.

  3. Press the DOWN switch for 2 ½ seconds to exit GLOBAL SETUP mode. The display will show ‘00’.

  4. Now we will select the BANK and PRESET we’ll use on the FCB1010. Select BANK 1 with the UP or DOWN switch. The display will now show ‘01’.

  5. Select PRESET 4 on the FCB1010 by pressing footswitch 4 and its LED will light up.

  6. Press the DOWN switch for 2 ½ seconds to enter the PRESET programming mode. The number in the display will disappear and the green SWITCH 1/SWITCH 2 LED will start flashing.

  7. Press the UP switch and the green SELECT LED will light up.

  8. At this point, if the LED on footswitch 1 isn’t lit up, press and hold the switch for about 1 ½ seconds until it does light up. We have now selected Program Change Command #1 (shown as PRG CHG 1 on footswitch 1).

  9. Press footswitch 1 briefly and it will start to flash.

  10. Confirm the MIDI function selection by pressing the UP switch. The greenNUMBER LED will now light up.

  11. Use the footswitches or EXPRESSION PEDAL A to enter the program change number that you want to transmit (1 through 128) with the PRESET. In this case, we want to use the footswitches or pedal until ‘123’ appears in the display. Program change number 123 on the FCB1010 corresponds with BANK 25 PRESET C on the V-AMP 2. Here’s an example of how it works: On the V-AMP 2 there are 25 BANKS with 5 PRESETS (A-E) each. If we count sequentially 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 1E, 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, 3A – PRESET 3A is the 11th in the series.

  12. Confirm your selection by pressing the UP switch. The green SELECT LED will light up.

  13. Leave the PRESET programming mode by a long press on the DOWNswitch. A red dot will briefly appear on the display followed by a number.

  14. When you select BANK 1, PRESET 4 on the FCB1010 you will now access BANK 25 PRESET C on the V-AMP 2.

You can also access any of the 125 V-AMP 2 presets from any of the 100 memory locations on the FCB1010 with DIRECT SELECT enabled.
