QoS Configuration of Ethernet Switches

Dante technology enables audio networking using Internet Protocols and has been designed to exploit the strengths of today’s switched Ethernet networks.

To ensure the best audio quality possible, Dante uses standard network Quality of Service (QoS) techniques available in off-the-shelf Ethernet switches to prioritize clocking and audio traffic, and to allow non-Dante devices such as personal computers to share a single network with Dante devices.

Enabling QoS in networks running Dante is generally recommended, particularly if 100Mbps links rather than 1Gbps links are used. In high traffic situations, where a large amount of non-Dante network traffic may be present, QoS should be enabled in order to assure reliable transmission of Dante audio.
