Why is there latency (delay) through LUCIA?

The latency through a LUCIA is 9 ms (equivalent of 10 ft or 3 m) and is due primarily to the look-ahead limiters and to the multiband mastering compression used in our ADLC algorithm, which adjusts for the nonlinearities of the ear (ISO226). However, 9 ms of latency is far below what is detectable as out-of-sync when used in video sound applications.

The latency is however a reason why it in some applications is better to drive products in parallel than to go through multiple products and thereby getting incremental delays.
