Gold Channel: Attempting to run at 88.2 / 96 kHz

Question

I'm trying to feed a 88.2 / 96 kHz signal into the Gold Channel, but it doesn't lock to the signal or output any audio. What is going on?

Answer

The Gold Channel is capable of upsampling the signal to 88.2 / 96 kHz and applying its processing there, and then downsampling again to 44.1 / 48 kHz, - but - the converters and the digital I/O are incapable of accepting or slaving to 88.2 / 96 kHz - only 44.1 / 48 kHz are supported for the digital I/O and wordclock.

When running the Gold Channel at 88.2 / 96 kHz, you can run either:

  • 4 insert effects (processing positions) per channel (4 x 2 = 8 insert effects) at 44.1 / 48 kHz,
  • 1 insert effect (processing position) per channel (1 x 1 = 2 insert effects) at 88.2 / 96 kHz,
  • 3 insert effects (processing position) on channel one at 88.2 / 96 kHz.

It is not possible to upgrade the hardware / software of a Gold Channel to support 88.2 / 96 kHz on its input and outputs.
