Is Thunderbolt backward-compatible with FireWire devices?
Yes. For connecting a FireWire 800 / 400 device to a Thunderbolt port an adapter from a third-party vendor is required. Thunderbolt won’t make these legacy devices any faster, however—they’ll still be limited to the performance of their built-in components. For example, a FireWire 400 device still won’t be able to transfer data faster than 400 Mbps.
Please note: Konnekt / Impact Twin / PowerCore are not specific tested with or officially supporting Thunderbolt.
