PowerCore with Asus P5K mainboards

Question

My Asus P5K based PC will not boot when a PowerCore Element / PCI / PCI mkII / Unplugged is inserted. What is going on?

Answer

On some systems with Asus P5K mainboards, the system is unable to start up with a PCI based PowerCore inside.

The issue is caused by dynamic overclocking on the mainboard.

Workarounds:

  • Disable dynamic overclocking in the BIOS of the mainboard itself
  • Upgrade to a PCI Express or FireWire based PowerCore, both of which are not affected.
