Q: Can I use a bass guitar to drive Harmony on my TC-Helicon device?
A: In short, no...but maybe... sometimes... depending on how you play...
Our algorithm depends on utilizing several notes to determine the chord being played and then figure out which key/scale to apply for harmony voice generation.
A bass guitar usually provides a root note and passing tones for the chord which NaturalPlay will try to use to determine a key from. The harmony portion of NaturalPlay system works best when at least a root+3rd are inputted into the unit simultaneously.
An additional 5th, 7th, 9th etc will usually help with the overall chordal recognition. So, all of that said, you may find some success but the results will be more unpredictable than with a guitar, keyboard or track input.
