VoiceWorks / VoiceLive: What the Smoothing parameter does

Question

What does the Smoothing parameter do?

Answer

You may have discovered that when you stack harmonies on your voice and your pitch is a little off, the whole “group” is off. For this reason, Helicon developed the Smoothing parameter to dial in pitch correction on the harmony voices. When you find a preset you’d like to hear this effect upon, press the Edit button and scroll to the HA-2 edit screen where you will find the name shortened to Smooth. A Smoothing value of 100% is no pitch correction but as you lower the value toward zero, you get more “stepping” of the harmonies versus your input pitch. Another description of Smoothing is that it makes the harmony voices sound more human at 100% and more robot like at 0%.
