GOXLR - What is a gate and how do I use it?
A gate (or noise gate as it is sometimes called) is used to ignore any signal which is below a certain level. This is very useful for keeping background noise to a minimum or to mitigate hum in your signal. GOXLR has three controls used to adjust the gate settings and you can learn about them here:
Threshold: This is the minimum level at which the signal will still be audible. Increase this setting until background noise has been eliminated but still allows your mic input to be heard clearly.
Attack: This setting is used to adjust how quickly the gate will cut the signal if it is below the threshold.
Release: The opposite of attack. This setting determines how quickly the gate will deactivate when the signal is equal to or louder than the threshold.
